Barrie Fair debut for new fairgrounds in Essa starts tonight

The 159th annual Barrie Fair takes place at its new home in Essa Township, just west of Thornton starting this afternoon at 4 pm when the gates open for "toonie night" (all rides $2). And the truck and tractor pull at 7 pm.

Located on a 100 acres at the NE corner of 10th Conc. And 20th S.R. the fair continues Friday starting at noon, through all-day Saturday and Sunday.

The new Essa and District Agricultural Fairgrounds added about 20,000 sq metres of structures to accommodate livestock barns, manure storage, show rings, and water house over the summer in preparation for both the Barrie Fair, and next year's International Plowing Match which is relocating from its original host site in Innisfil.

Among the featured events throughout the weekend include monster truck shows, demolition derby, horse pulls, midway, battle of the bands, and live entertainment headlined Saturday night by Barrie native and award winning Country music singer Jason McCoy.
