The first posted speed limit on Willoughby Road between County Road 10 and the 5th Line will be a maximum of 60 km/h.
That's the recommendation to council from CAO Greg Murphy who in his
report notes that following discussions with the Township's consultant,
AECOM, "we believe a speed limit of 60 kph should be implemented on
this stretch of road."
Currently, there is no posted speed limit on this road right now but the Highway Traffic Act indicates that the speed limit is 80 kph on a
highway, not within a built-up area, that is within a local municipality
that had the status of a Township on December 31, 2002.
"This would also be consistent with the posted speed limit that is in
effect on the 5th Line, from Willoughby Road to County Road 90,"
according to Mr. Murphy. "Willoughby Road has been designed to a
collector road status so as to carry local traffic to arterial roads.
Every effort should be made to ensure that such traffic moves in a
safe, efficient and orderly fashion. A speed limit lower than 60 kph on
this road would not accomplish this goal."
If this proposed speed limit is approved, the preliminary cost for the
prescribed signs and posts is $1,200.
Willoughby Road reopened last month after nearly two years and over $3 million
worth of work that included construction of a 130 ft bridge crossing
the Nottawasaga River and extension to the 5th Line that creates a new road link to the newly built up east end of Angus.
